Got another email this week, this one from a client who wanted to know what kind of a reading they should have and if a general reading would suffice rather than a soul-planned reading, which was pretty smart on their part, it was obvious they had so many questions on incredibly different subjects that they'd need more than one reading if I was going to give them the right information, and that could range from a general reading to a sentence of passion consultation to the full soul-planned session, because, after all, I have a home menu of readings so people can find the exact right one for what they're looking for. The problem was their request was overflowing with too many subjects and too many directions in which to go and, frankly, a lot of the questions couldn't be usefully answered by a psychic. My client would be better off finding a place to sit down and converse with her inner self to figure out what it was that she truly wanted, because when a client has a whole bunch of should-I-in questions they ask, that tells me that they aren't listening to their inner voice. Should is outer directed. When you use should, it's because you believe something else, or someone else's expectations have to be considered before your own truths. That's why I tell people don't ask to learn too much at once. When you do, nothing sticks, you just cram it in and it makes no sense and doesn't sink in to be truly understood or used. If you come to me with this kind of overfilled request for a reading. I will gently say that I am not your intuitive until you sit down with yourself and focus on what's most important to you. Which leads me to my two top rules for getting a useful reading.

As I said, psychics all have different reading styles. We do. Some just want you to plonk yourself in a chair and let them go to town with the information. My friend, the late great Ali Cheslik, was like that, which got her the reputation of being known as Chattie Cathy of the Dead. And then there are others who want to concentrate specifically on what is uppermost in your life at the moment and give you deep, dish, multi level answers. I'm one of those.

But no matter what kind of psychic you sit with, there are two ways that you can prep yourself in your mindset so you walk out with the most useful on target information possible. Okay, number one accept responsibility. For your part, in the session, the most important thing you can take into any psychic appointment is an acceptance of responsibility. You yes, you are ultimately responsible for your reading, because it's your attitude that determines whether it's valuable or just an opportunity for a few giggles. That's what I call. The fluffy attitude gets fluff mindset. If you come into a session expecting nothing, that's most often what results. Why Think about it? If you sashay into the session figuring that nothing the psychic says is going to matter, or you tend to dismiss information as coincidental or think someone must have told the psychic or they say the same thing to everyone. What are we supposed to do? And if you're not really there with the psychic, they can find it hard to get into what you want to know.

The best psychic sessions are the ones where you see yourself as a true co-creator in the process. When you are more open and interested and focused, you are a better subject for your intuitive professional and the better your results will be. Also, please stay sober. I can't stress this enough. When your bloodstream is carrying alcohol or drugs, your mental processes get fuzzy, you can't concentrate on what's happening and you won't register what we tell you, not to mention that we're likely to pick up what isn't there on a normal day-to-day basis. I tell people to think of it as psychic-pink elephants. The drunk sees them and no one else does. When we read you and you're under the influence, we're looking through your mental lenses and if they're fogged, we can't see either. Then, number two state your intentions clearly.

One of the biggest complaints I hear is that the psychic didn't tell me anything. I wanted to know how can that happen? Simple, I'm good, but if you and I have a half an hour session then no matter how fast I go, there are going to be some things I just don't get to. Even if I've brilliantly read your life encyclopedia from A to Q, if what you wanted was down in volume T, you'll shrug and say she wasn't any good. I didn't hear from my dead Aunt Mabel. That's why saying to us just tell me what you see about my future, means that we have to scan everything ahead and there's only so much ground we can cover in a session.

High clients know that they get the best readings when they come in knowing what they want to know. That doesn't mean coming in with preconceived notions. Instead, it means doing prep work that sets up a structure for the session in a way that's most useful for both of us. How can you do that as a client? First, you need to know why you're asking for a session. If it's to clear confusion about direction, that's one kind of reading. If it's how to handle the dynamics of a situation and the people involved, that's a second. If it's choosing among several options, that's a third, and so on. When, as Star Trek engineer Scotty says, you pinpoint the underlying kink in the pipeline, then we know what to pull out of our psychic toolbox for you.

Your next job is to outline and prioritize your questions. My clients know I joke about being a New Yorker, which means I'll be absolutely talking very fast, but that also means our sessions are packed and it's why you should make a recording of our time together so you can review things later on. Still, if you've got a lot of questions about a lot of areas in your life, I might not get to it all. So it's a great idea to make sure you know which subjects are most important, for instance family or work, and then decide the question within the category, things like will my mother-in-law have to live with us? Is our company going to be merged and, if that happens, what will that do to my job? Finally, specific questions are better than general questions. It's part of that subgrouping idea To use a relocation scenario.

If you ask about relocation in general, your intuitive may see opportunities in Denver or San Jose. That doesn't help if your company has only offered you positions in Altoona, savannah and Houston. If there are definite parameters we've got to work with, tell us. The less time backtracking because we're guessing about the unchangeable factors the more information we can pack into our time with you, even though, by law, your intuitive has to tell you that what we do is quote for entertainment only, end quote. The truth is, all reputable psychics want to give you a rocket pack on your back to go and grab your life, to show you your opportunities and challenges and give you the right tools to master both of them.
